Being eager to use Fing with a GUI is a perfectly reasonable request, and some of our loyal users have been wondering what is happing these days.
Let us try to clarify what's happing (a lot, I assure you), without tentative dates that we would not be happy to miss.
- We are getting real close to complete the GUI with the core functionalities. We intend to start delivering a alpha/beta program soon while we finish up. Packaging the solution is now being dealt with. You have waited long enough.
- Although many of our users are Windows-based, Fing engine is truly cross-platform. That's a big plus in terms of interoperability, but it also makes it tenfold harder to deliver and test something that works for everything. User polls and a few Use Case scenarios have expressed the need of a Web-based UI, which we are working hard to deliver with a fantastic experience. It shall also be easy to use as desktop app. As you may imagine, that has become tricky to fulfil.
- The mobile world has exploded. Wi-fi connections are everywhere, and we want to be atop of this momentum. Fing for Android is being received exceptionally well and it's growing FAST. The little detour we have taken is proving to be worthwhile, though it is also draining time from the main goal.
A new engine, a better UI, top-notch ideas gave us a lot of inspiration, and we may have not followed the KISS principle all the time. The more we want to include, the more we have been delaying. Sorry about that.
We'll provide an update in the next weeks.
